The second part of the route flattens out, rolling through the Baix Empordà between Palamós and Roses, where the open terrain allows a higher average speed.
A perfect warm-up in a breathtaking Mediterranean setting.

Cap de Creus + Tour de Madeloc — 107 km / ≈ 2 100 m +
Shorter, but far from easy. Stage 2 packs serious climbing within a compact profile: two ascents inside Cap de Creus Natural Park and, after crossing into France, the legendary climb to the Tour de Madeloc.
The relentless ups and downs of the coastal road linking Cap de Creus and the Madeloc massif accumulate nearly 2 100 m of elevation gain.
Expect awe-inspiring sea panoramas — and a true leg-tester.

Stage 3 | Banyuls-sur-Mer → Olot
The Queen Stage — Catalan Pyrenees on both sides of the border — 159 km / ≈ 3 090 m +
The queen stage begins with a gentle ascent to the Col de Banyuls before re-entering Spain toward Espolla.
Riders descend to near sea level, then climb toward the Darnius Reservoir, continuing on the scenic road through Maçanet de Cabrenys and Tapis back to the frontier — already 800 m above sea level.
On the French side, a descent to the River Tec precedes the day’s major challenge: the long climb through Prats de Mollo, returning to Spain over a 1 500 m pass.
The final kilometres descend through alpine meadows to Olot, our base for the night.
A majestic mountain epic — the true Queen Stage.
18:00 — Check-in — Hotel in Olot
19:00 — Dinner [ Olot | Traditional local restaurant ]
9:00 — Breakfast [ Hotel resturant ]
Day-off in Olot

10:15 — Stage 4 — Start
Stage 4 | Olot → Vallter 2000 → Olot
The High-Altitude Test — 115 km / ≈ 2 360 m +
Vallter 2000, the highest point of the entire tour (2 150 m a.s.l.), crowns Stage 4.
Starting in Camprodon, the climb winds into a genuine high-mountain landscape where conditions differ dramatically from morning temperatures in Olot.
There is only one road up, so the descent follows the same spectacular route — beautiful in both directions.
The return includes La Vall del Bac and the remarkable medieval village of Castellfollit de la Roca.
A pure test at altitude and one of Catalonia’s classic ascents.
19:00 — Dinner [ Olot | Restaurant in the city center ]
9:00 — Breakfast [ Hotel resturant ]
10:00 — Check-out from the hotel in Olot & luggage loading
10:15 — Stage 5 — Start
Stage 5 | Olot → Girona
Mare de Déu del Mont Sanctuary — 98 km / ≈ 1 536 m +
Stage 5 descends from Olot toward Girona — but halfway, everything changes.
The magnificent climb to the Sanctuary of Mare de Déu del Mont offers spectacular views and a demanding gradient that rewards every pedal stroke.
After a break at the summit, riders descend the opposite side of the mountain, skirt Lake Banyoles, and cruise across the Girona plain into the city’s historic Old Town.
Beautiful and challenging in equal measure.
18:00 — Check-in — Hotel in Girona
19:00 — Dinner [ Girona | Pizza & Pasta dinner in the old town ]
9:00 — Breakfast [ Hotel resturant ]
10:00 — Check-out from the hotel in Girona & luggage loading
10:15 — Stage 6 — Start
Stage 6 | Girona → Tossa de Mar
Grand Finale — Sant Hilari de Sacalm & Sant Grau d’Ardenya — 116 km / ≈ 1 500 m +
The final stage traverses Girona’s southern highlands before returning to the sea.
A steady climb from Anglès to Sant Hilari de Sacalm via Osor leads to the highest town in La Selva.
The descent toward Santa Coloma de Farners flows into Llagostera, where the route turns onto the last ascent — Sant Grau d’Ardenya.
After descending to the legendary coastal GI-682, riders trace the Mediterranean back to Tossa de Mar for a well-earned celebration.
A legendary finale to an unforgettable week.

FAQ
Is this event for me?
Tour de Girona Grand Tour Road Experience is a high-level road cycling adventure in a small, select group. The stages are challenging and rewarding — not suitable for complete beginners, but absolutely accessible for intermediate riders thanks to the option to shorten or skip stages when needed. Stage 4 (Vallter 2000) is optional and can be used as a lighter recovery day.
At the same time, the overall week (distance, elevation, and consecutive stages) makes this tour truly exciting for advanced, performance-oriented riders who want a pro-style challenge. And for the “racers”, our optional Strava climbing challenge gives you a fun way to go hard on selected segments — while still enjoying the stages with the group.
Pace groups: FAST and MEDIUM. For safety and comfort, each pace group may be split into smaller sub-groups during the stage.
In short: if you ride regularly and have basic group-riding skills, you’ll fit in well — whether you’re coming to step up your level or to push your limits.
